Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine:
“The ancient science that describes the four types of life were advantages and disadvantages, happiness and sorrow, along with the right and wrong way of living it. Its value couldn’t be measured as it describes the life itself.”
• What is the true meaning of health and being healthy?
Ayurved defines in four ways
Tridosha – Balance in Tridosha means Vata, Pitta and Kapha. This refers to physical well-being.
Digestive fire – Ayurveda believes that the imbalance in digestive fire (Agni) is the root cause for most of the diseases. Ayurvedic experts analyse Agni not only as a digestive fire but the energy behind all the metabolic processes of the body. This also refers to physical well-being.
Body tissues and processes – This component refers to physical health
Total satisfaction of Soul, Sense organs and Mind – The explanation of these components are quite difficult and subjective. These not only refer to mental & social well-being but also spiritual well-being too.
• What is the true meaning of health and being healthy?
As per modern aspect:
“Health is not just a disease or the absence of disability in the body, it is a state of complete “physical, mental and social well-being”. –W.H.O.
“Whether health is physical or mental, nothing is more important than our good health, that is our core value and wealth.” – Aarlon
The only purpose of Ayurveda is to protect the health of a healthy person and alleviate the disorder of the patient.
Aim of Ayurveda :
1. To maintain the health of the healthy individual and
2. To treat the disease of the diseased.
Since we entered our modern era there’s a need for Clarification on a few things about Ayurveda especially for the natives :
A lion never compares itself with the tiger neither shall we? Both have similarities yet differences like a root and the fruit of the same tree.
( Ayurveda is the root and Modern medical science is the fruit and both have their own benefits one cures the incurable while another cures through technology. )
Yes, the fruit is a pleasure we seek Yet one must never forget it’s unachievable without the root.
( Ayurveda is not the treasure but an unexplored path that leads to many treasures of modern medical science. )
A tree must grow in a certain way to create a certain type of fruit. Accept the way.
( Ayurveda is the upaveda of Atharva Veda the fourth one of the four Vedas in Hinduism. The things are explained in spiritual riddles so that we can explore the maximum out of it. Accept this way. )
And now Last but not the least :
A lion shall never be ashamed of being a king.
( Accept Ayurveda without any shame because of its linkage to the spiritual path. Be proud of it. While respecting and celebrating modern medical science’s success based on it. )
Today we will learn more about types of Chikitsa. In Ayurveda, Chikitsa is classified into 3 types
1) Daivavyapashraya Chikitsa
2) Yuktivyapashraya Chikitsa
3) Satvavajaya Chikitsa
